My Father’s Dragons

From the series And My Father Before Me.

  • Oil and Cold Wax on Arches paper for oil
  • 12″ x 16″
  • 14 1/4″ x 18″ with rustic wood frame

Part of my series And My Father Before Me. This abstract painting in oil and cold wax consists of neutral whites and veils of transparent orange that reveal small, twisting shapes that are primarily green, yellow, red, and orange. Strong black lines with variable thickness run in a twisting fashion down either side of the composition. Some people see seahorses frolicking, while some see shapes reminiscent of stomachs and digestive tracts. Some Shapes are reminiscent of cluster of eggs. I see the dragons that my father loved to doodle, their twisting forms, writhing with life. The interplay of contrasting values and somewhat complimentary colors create a dynamic tension, inviting the viewer to explore the depth and complexity of the abstract world where my father’s dragons live.
